Laptop Fan Replacement

So I finally got off my ass and replaced the right side cooling fan in my laptop. It had been whining and chirping for several months and then just died. I ordered a new "used" one for $30 and it has been sitting for a week inn the box. During replacement I stripped the top out of one of those oddball torque screws, so I pulled it with some needle nose pliers and replaced it with a similar sized screw from a guitar. So far Mr. Laptop is purring nicely and a bit cooler.

Home Studio Set-Up

This is my new home set-up for recording. I have my mixers and outboard gear out of frame on the left on a big shelf. I added a second keyboard to the laptop so my typing area would be in front of the piano keyboard.

Home Studio Corner

In an effort to have a portable studio set-up, I have based my new studio around my laptop. I have peripherals (mixers, outboard gear, mics, etc) at home and in my studio spaces. I have various rooms now set for different sounds and reverbs with the flexibility to work almost anywhere, I am still waiting on a Line 6 POD Studio KB37 to use as a usb audio and note data input device for my laptop. So I have an open table at home (the corner) and an open table in the studio space to instantly plug in and set up the laptop studio. I can only hope this makes me more productive

New (To Me) Laptop

Just took delivery of a used Macbook Pro 1.83G Intel CoreDuo laptop. Cost me just over $800 from Powermax.com. Spent all afternoon yesterday loading in software and moving files between my other two G4 towers. I am going to donate Thing 2 (a G4 500) to the family so both kids can Facebook at the same time. What I didn't know was the Intel Macs can't run OS9 in Classic (or at all). I have tons of older software that I still use for file conversions, etc. Guess I am gonna have to slowly shell out some green to update all my vintage software. The coolest thing about going mobile is being able to work on screenplays, edit film and record music anywhere. I also bought a  TASCAM US-100 so I will have a truly mobile recording setup. Just add mics and go!
