Hot Rod Girls Save The World (100 Minute Version)

After watching Hot Rod Girls Save The World for the hundredth time at our portable drive-in a few days ago, I decided to do a super short cut up version of the film for playing as a double feature with Rat Rod Rockers! I basically cut everything with the Jake Hammerboy character subplot out, Bunny's character subplot and several other extraneous sections, as well as the Alternative Ending. This leaves the core of the film- but in a much tighter format. Will I ever be done editing this thing? Kinda like remixing a movie. This cut clocks in at just over one hour and forty minutes. I am shooting for an hour and a half for Rat Rod Rockers! That would be a three hour double feature.

The Anywhere Trilogy now The Anywhere Archives

Made a big decision yesterday to switch my film project concept from a Trilogy to an ongoing series. Essentially Rat Rod Rockers! my new film (out mid 2010), was not a part of the Trilogy concept, but has one of the Anywhere characters (Dutch) as well as taking place in my make believe town- Anywhere, Washington. This was bugging me for awhile, but what to do? Make a four part Trilogy? I started thinking about Lord Of The Rings with The Hobbit being the oddball book. Rather than go that route and wanting to do quite a few more films and novels in Anywhere, I thought more of The X Files or Martian Chronicles than Star Wars or Lord Of The Rings. So, Files, Chronicles = Archives. The Anywhere Archives will be my series name, encompassing (so far) Hot Rod Girls Save The World (2008), Rat Rod Rockers! (2010) The Legend Of D.B. Petty (2011) and Memories Of The Planet Earth (2012). I am also thinking of writing The Legend Of D.B. Petty in novel form before screenplay form. Now I need to go and change all the artwork. I already did on the new Kustom Edition of Hot Rod Girls Save The World that comes out in February (cover and opening film titles). Still need to get the websites, etc.

Rat Rod Rockers! Screenplay & Quantum Communication

Worked on the screenplay all day yesterday. I'm at Scene 40 (which means nothing to you, but is around the half way point). Sketch and then detail. Thats how I've been writing Rat Rod Rockers!

Heard a really interesting Coast To Coast AM show last night with David Sereda talking about his new film "Quantum Communication." I was so intrigued that I bought his DVD this morning http://www.voiceentertainment.net/movies/quantumcommunication.html
The DVD description on the website reads more like a self help guide, but what he was talking about last night was more about how we communicate with each other and the universe at large, subconsciously on the Quantum level.

The Defiers Car Club Anywhere, WA. From Rat Rod Rockers!

Getting the Car Club names and logos ready for Rat Rod Rockers! The town has several gang/car clubs that do all the dirty work for various local mobsters. The Defiers was one of my fave gang names and the first logo I designed. I used a St. Florian Cross with rounded edges. It does look a bit like the Firefighters Cross Logo, but what the hell it's only a movie. I do all the graphics for my films- logos and signs are actually a big part of prop and costume design for films.

Meet the Milldue's of Rat Rod Rockers!

We held an actors meeting last night for the girls of the fictitious "Milldue Family." They are some of the central characters of Rat Rod Rockers! We ran some lines, talked wardrobe and checked character chemistry. These kinds of meetings really help me in writing the screenplay.

Rat Rod Rockers! Pre-Production Meeting

We had our second Rat Rod Rockers! pre-production meeting yesterday. Mostly discussing the shots we need for the movie trailer and locations. The farm house lead we had didn't pan out. Looks like we got a good crew for this film.

Harold Is Cast

After two weeks of screen tests, we finally selected "Harold" for Rat Rod Rockers! His name is Aeon Black and his comedic take on Harold fit the bill. Only a few smaller parts to cast and we will be ready for character development for Rat Rod Rockers!

Danielle Is Cast!

Well we finally picked an actress for the part of "Danielle" in our upcoming film Rat Rod Rockers. Drum roll please....and our choice is...Teri Aslett. This really was a difficult decision. All of the gals that came over to read Danielle were excellent. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and talent around the greater Seattle area. Next we will be casting "Harold."

Rat Rod Rockers Title Theme

I just finished up the title theme for our new feature film Rat Rod Rockers. The actual music is based on a punk song called What Red Humor that I wrote back in the early 1980s and performed with my hardcore band Xijix all around SoCal. I recycled it in the1990s changing the lyrics and and title to Joy Ride. It was released under a side project I had at the time called Kardboard. For this latest incarnation of the song I went with a jangly Telecaster tone for the basic guitar tracks, then added a heavily compressed and over driven pair of stereo guitar tracks and finally a bluesy center track. Gives a big, full guitar sound. For the bass I played my little Bronco Bass with all the high end cut for that old school punk vibe. The drums were pieced together from one of my Betamonkey Loop Librarys. Love those guys drums. Also I finally completed the Reverend Horton Heat interview I did for CK Deluxe. I got behind on my writing due to my intestine problems late last month. I have a few articles in que for upcoming issues. I dig writing.

Screen Testing Russian Mob Boss- Ivan

Sunday, Kerry Murphy came over to the studio for a screen test of Rat Rod Rockers Russian Mob Boss- Ivan. Like Hot Rod Heidi, he had already been selected for the part, so this was more for my own character reference and script writing than a try out. His Russian accent was almost perfect and he really conveys what I had in mind for Ivan. I also finished the audio sketch of the Rat Rod Rockers title theme. It's a hardcore punk ditty that clocks in at 200 BPM. I need it for the Rat Rod Rockers trailer we are putting together.
