New Rats & Gasser Poster

Made a new Rats & Gassers: Kustom Kulture Takes A Ride movie poster (35x23 inches big) with Big Tom and Carla's "Mr. Nasty" Henry J Gasser and model Jean Viva. The series is growing. Eventually I wan to have dozens of large posters available for the film. The posters are available on Cafe Press. 

Rats & Gassers Filming @ Tom Sanders Shop

Went over to Tom Sanders' Shop to film an interview with him about his '29 Ford Truck build and to get some detail shots of the rig. We will be heading back to his area to film some drive around footage and shoot a magazine article featuring his ride and the gorgeous pin-up model Shelbi Farhney. The stance of Tom's Hot Rod is perfect, it caught my eye at the Rat City Rodz Car Show a few months back.

We are winding down the shooting schedule for Rats & Gassers: Kustom Kulture Takes A Ride. We have a few more interviews, some GoPro pick up shots and a few more locations and then full time editing sets in. We are on track to have this feature length documentary out by middle of 2013.

Go-Kustom TV @ Hell On Wheels 2012

We set up the big 20x10 foot outdoor screen at Darrell's Tavern for the Hell On Wheels Car Show before noon. Darrell's is on Aurora (Highway 99) in Shoreline, Washington. This is the third annual and includes a small car show, bands all day in the tavern, burlesque performers and this year outdoor Hot Rod movies! I filmed a bit for Go-Kustom TV as my wife worked our vendor booth. Some cool rides, especially Craig VanSant's '49 Plymouth Sedan Delivery and one of my favorite area cars Mike Smith's 1967 Coronet R/T. After dusk, we started running films with a few hot rod shorts and then Rat Rod Rockers! Looked awesome and people from the nearby Fred Meyer parking lot and Jack In The Box drive through were gawking all night long. Hopefully we will run films next year. 

Go-Kustom TV @ Slaughterhouse Car Show 2012

"You are watching Go-Kustom TV!"

So after packing our portable (20 foot by 10 foot) outdoor projection screen, projection gear and vendor gear, the wife and I headed over to Monroe, Washington for the Rat Bastards Car Club Annual Slaughterhouse Car Show. The show is held at Monroe River Valley Farm, which is a great place to have an event or car show. Lots of outdoor parking, beer and wine bar, large stage on the back of the main building and easy access. Besides selling our Go-Kustom wares, I was filming for Go-Kustom TV most of the day. I forgot my external mic tho, and only attempted to interview a few car owners because of the background noise. Mics on camera tend to pick up everything and can make it difficult to hear the interviewees speech. Still I collected hours of event footage, including the pin-up contest (which I was also a judge for) and a promo spot with Kitty Mansfield for GK TV- "You are watching Go-Kustom TV!" After the awards ceremony for Best Hot Rod, etc., etc., a handful of Rat Bastards (and photographer Ralph Gayle- who was there to show me his photo shoot with Kitty Mansfield for an article I am writing) put together my behemoth outdoor screen. This took nearly an hour. After the sun went down we showed some music videos and a film on the big screen. The Rat Bastards brought the pop corn for the dozen or so stragglers that stayed for the movie. It felt like a real, mini-drive-in. Every time I do one of these outdoor screenings, I start thinking about how cool it would be to open a Drive-In Theater, but with a Kustom Kulture twist. Like a car show with bands during the day and then old B-Movies every weekend evening all summer long. Maybe even iPad projection onto mobile devices as well as the big screen. It could work!

My wife and I camped out at the farm, so we could avoid a late night drive home then early return to tear down the screen. Putting the screen up is the hard part, taking it down only takes two people a half hour. We got home at 6 AM and slept in until nearly noon. Nice. 

More Interview Footage On Timelines

Working on more interviews and setting them up in Final Cut Pro. This is still pre-editing. You would think that I would actually have some of these scenes edited, but I trashed many of the old timelines to move everything onto HD timelines. The Panasonic AG-DVX10 footage actually looks decent in HD! Not as sharp as the Canon HF-G10 footage, but not as grainy as I originally thought it would look.
